Summer Grilling = No Hot House
As our days heat up, you might be tempted to quit cooking for fear of adding heat to the house. This is the time to move your cooking outside! Plus, when you cook outside, Dads really like to get involved (maybe it is the fact that they get to play with fire?) So in honor of Dad, we salute the summer grill.
MEATS
Grilled meat is a summer must, and we have a great selection of locally raised, natural meats for you to choose from, including pork, beef, and lamb. Check our freezer for the latest offerings. We have a wide variety of spice rubs and marinades that can turn a regular ol’ grilled steak into a masterpiece.
VEGGIES
Our huge selection of fresh, locally grown vegetables gives you lots of grilling options. Try grilling onions, peppers, squash, and corn (let it cool, then cut it off the cob), chop the veggies, and toss it all with balsamic vinegar and olive oil—a delicious and colorful side dish.
BREAD
Grilled bread is a wonderful companion to your grilled meal. Just be sure to watch it carefully—it browns fast! Take home a loaf of our Truckee Sourdough or Ciabatta, slice it thickly, and grill. Once it is lightly toasted on both sides, remove and drizzle with Bariani Olive Oil. Divine! Another option is to have grated parmesan cheese (or better yet, sliced brie!) at the ready and add it on right after the bread comes off the grill. You can also cook pizza on the grill (you can put it on two layers of foil or use a pizza grilling stone if you have one)—and to make it even easier, grab one or two of our deli’s new take-and-bake gourmet pizzas! They taste much better than any take out!
DESSERT
Yes, you can even make dessert on the grill. Try one of our online recipes (Beth’s Buckle is a good one, and we have local peaches and cherries in now that would make a yummy combination!) and assemble it in a stainless steel pan. Put it on the grill with the lid shut and heat turned down after you are done grilling everything else. While you are enjoying your grilled dinner, dessert will be cooking, without adding any heat to your home. Plus the smoky flavor imparted by the grill is a delicious surprise in dessert. Serve with ice cream and savor the summer evening!
Stop in today and let us know how we can help you make meals easier!
