Be Heart Smart For Valentine’s Day

Here at Newcastle Produce, we strive to offer you the finest foods available, and this month is no different.

“BEAN” HEART SMART
One of the most heart-healthy foods is the simple bean. Beans are low in fat, high in fiber and protein, and they are rich in iron, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc. Plus they are filling, which makes them a great choice for anyone trying to lose weight.

Dried beans can be used in hundreds of ways, including in soups, salads, dips, sauces, stuffing, and more. We have a huge variety of dried beans to choose from, and each bag of beans has recipe ideas on the back. Our bean selection includes: Christmas Lima Beans, White Emergo Beans (very large, great in salads), Yellow Eye Beans, Rattlesnake Beans, Cannellini Beans (a traditional Italian bean that is large and white, often used in minestrone), Trout Beans (aka Jacob’s Cattle), Cranberry Beans (an Italian heirloom with a sweet strong flavor), Black Turtle Beans (great for Cuban and Latin American dishes), Swedish Brown Beans (the traditional one for baked beans), White Rice Beans (these tiny beans cook in 30 minutes!), Flageolet Beans (a traditional French bean, pale green and delicate, used in cassoulet), Adzuki Beans, Marrow Beans (white beans for soup), Tongues of Fire Beans, Calypso Beans, Appaloosa Beans, and Black Eyed Peas. Whew...and that is not all! We also have soup mixes that feature beans. Try some beans today and your heart will thank you!

SWEET TREATS
Special occasions like Valentine’s Day call for sweets, and we have a terrific selection of gourmet treats for your sweetie. Choose anything from the Scharffen Berger chocolate line (made in the Bay Area), including bars of Semi-Sweet, Bitter Sweet, and Mocha (featuring Peet’s Coffee), plus Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunks, Scharffen Berger Cocoa, and Scharffen Berger’s new Chocolate Sauce (divine!).

We have lots of delicious cookies (such as Beth’s Babies or Almondina), Bodega Fudge, Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds, and Caramel Corn with Nuts. Or try the new Dark Chocolate Covered Cranberries, Milk Chocolate Strawberry Truffles, and Milk Chocolate Peach Truffles all by Cape Cod Provisions.

We can help make a treat basket for your honey, too! Call or stop by for details.
